Roger Federer Beats Ivo Karlovic in Wimbledon Quarter-Final

federerROGER FEDERER continued his dominance at Wimbledon by sweeping aside big-hitting Croatian Ivo Karlovic in straight sets.

The five-time All England Club champion eased through 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to set up his 21st consecutive Grand Slam semi-final and a meeting with 24th seed Tommy Haas – a clash the big German is unlikely to relish, despite his victory over fourth seed Novak Djokovic.

Federer went into the match knowing he had won eight of his nine previous meetings with the 6ft 10in Croatian, and he was quickly into his stride.

The Swiss master became the first man in the tournament to break Karlovic’s serve when he struck in the fourth game, then another break gave him the second set and he dominated the third-set tie-break.

Federer was delighted with his performance and the way he kept his head against the notorious big server.

He said: “It’s difficult because there’s not really any rallies, mentally especially.

“It’s not easy to break him but I’m very happy to have broken him twice in the match.

“I love the record I have, reaching so many semi-finals. It shows how consistent I’ve been.

“Once you’re at this stage, you want to win the tournament. Having won so many times it gives me a great feeling.”
