As for the driver standings this season Vettel is in the third place and Hamilton seals the top spot with Button in the second spot.

The British Grand Prix will be held at the Silverstone; however, 2010 race will be using new circuit configuration that will be used, and with this the track length also increased by about 759 meters and it uses a new layout called “Arena.” Length of the Silverstone circuit 5.901 km and the total race length of 306.747 km covered in 52 laps.

Germany’s Vettel will be defending his SilverStone Circuit title and bookmakers mark him as favorite to win the race this year too, scheduled on Sunday, July 11, 2010.

F1 European GP Spain Valencia Street Circuit

The 2009 winner of the European Formula 1 was Rubens Barrichello for Brawn. The race is also popular as Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe.

Mclaren’s Lewis Hamilton clinched the recently concluded Canadian Grand Prix title and his fellow Briton Jenson Button occupied the second place. Alonso Fernando from Ferrari booked the third place and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull came fourth.

Hamilton’s win in the Canadian Grand Prix has credited him with 109 points, which make him lead the drivers’ championship and Button holds 106 points. The Spain Valencia Street Circuit has 57 laps and the circuit length is 5.419 km with a race distance of 308.883 km.

But until the European formula begins it is tough to say who will be the winner. Though considering the recent race Hamilton and Button look in tremendous form and they look good to win yet another title with ease.

Third race of the season will be held in Asia, Kuala Lumpur is the venue for the big race on 4th April 2010. After the drama at the Albert Park Ferrari and McLaren would want to continued their good run of form.

Ferrari were strong again with Felipe Massa taking third and Fernando Alonso fourth to secure leads in both the constructors and drivers championships. The other impressive race was from Renault’s Robert Kubica who held off the Ferrari challenge well to take second place.

Michael Schumacher continued his poor start to the season when a first corner shunt forced him to pit and he then struggled for most of the race to get past Jamie Alguersuari in the Toro Rossi. He eventually managed it and picked up a single championship point as his reward.

With Two Races to Go, Jimmie’s 4th Sprint Cup Almost a Certainty

With two races to go in The Chase, Jimmie Johnson has a 73 point over fellow Hendrick Motor Sports driver Mark Martin, and a 112 point lead over fellow Hendrick driver Jeff Gordon.

The chances of Jimmie losing the Sprint Cup aren’t very good, but stranger things have happened which is why the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500, this Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway, is such a big deal. JJ finished 38th last week in Texas and another finish like that, along with let’s say a Mark Martin victory, would make next week’s final race in The Chase very, very interesting.

Could Johnson possibly blow the Sprint Cup lead he garnered by winning the three of the four Chase races? Sure he could if he keeps finishing close to 40th place and his teammate, Martin, wins a couple more.

Martin, by the way, returns to Phoenix where he won in April and where he averages a 9th place finish. The old man of Hendrick hasn’t been driving like an old timer all season and definitely has enough left in the tank to make a serious run at JJ should Jimmie and his crew blow another race.

The NASCAR odds on Johnson in the race are +400. The odds on Mark Martin in the sportsbook are +500. I’d go with Martin in this situation. He’s coming off of a 4th place finish at Texas and has won at PIR before.

This race is Martin’s to lose, not Jimmie’s to win, which means that a seriously interesting matchup next week at Homestead cold be brewing after Sunday.

Jimmie Johnson is a Huge Favorite to Win Both the NASCAR Banking 500 and the Sprint Cup Championship

This week’s Sprint Cup race, the NASCAR Banking 500, won’t start under the lights but it will end under the lights. The favorite, as to be expected, is once again Jimmie Johnson.

Jimmie has won two of the four already run Sprint Cup Championship races. He could be looking at his 3 rd victory in the last 5 th championship races on Saturday as Jimmie no doubt owns Lowe’s Motor Speedway, where the NASCAR Banking 500 is being run. Jimmie has 5 victories over the Lowe’s Motor Speedway track and because he and his crew are on fire right now, could be looking at a 6 th. JJ grabbed the pole in Thursday’s qualifying round making a statement to any driver looking to take him down.

In the NASCAR sportsbook Jimmie is a huge favorite to take home both the NASCAR Banking 500 trophy on Saturday and the Sprint Cup Championship. The NASCAR odds on JJ to win the NASCAR Banking 500 are 5 to 2. The odds on him to win the Sprint Cup are +120.

The Chase for the Sprint Cup is down to eight races with this weekend’s NASCAR betting action coming from Kansas Speedway. The Price Chopper 400 will feature the 12 drivers battling for the Cup title as well as others trying to finish the season in style.

Defending Cup champ and winner of last season’s run at Kansas, Jimmie Johnson, is priced as a +450 race favorite for this Sunday. Johnson is coming off a win at Dover last weekend, moving into second place in the standings. The No. 48 team has had great success at the 1.5-mile oval in recent races. Johnson has an average finish of 10.4 in his seven career starts including that 2008 win and a third-place showing in 2007.

Veteran Mark Martin, who leads the Chase standings with 5,400 points, is set at +600 for the Price Chopper 400. Martin took the checkered flag at Loudon two weeks ago and followed that with a runner-up finish at Dover last weekend. He has placed inside the Top 10 in five straight starts and owns one career win at Kansas. Martin won the 2005 Banquet 400 but has finished 18th and 12th in his last two races there.

Another Hendrick Motorsports driver is near the top of the NASCAR betting board; Jeff Gordon is listed at +800 for this Sunday’s event. Gordon ran into pit troubles at Dover, dropping from second to a sixth-place finish. The No. 24 car has had a slow start to the Chase, currently sitting in eighth. However, he has an impressive track record at this week’s venue, picking up two wins and five Top 5 showings in just eight career starts at Kansas City.

There are seven drivers priced at +1200 for this Sunday’s race. Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Brian Vickers, and Juan Pablo Montoya are all capable of finishing the day in victory lane, but Biffle is the standout of the bunch. He’s currently ninth in the points standings after two ho-hum runs to open the Chase. But Biffle has had past success at Kansas, finishing inside the Top 3 in four of his seven runs there. He claimed victory at the 1.5-mile oval back in 2007 and has an average finish of 9.9 at K.C.

Ben Collins Race In V8 Enduros, Stig coming to drive at Bathurst?

On popular motor sports betting show Top Gear, some say he is the anonymous driver called “The Stig”. All we know is he’s competing in this year’s V8 Super car endurance races.

On Wednesday, Jack Daniel’s Racing announced English endurance racing specialist Ben Collins will pair up with veteran Nathan Pretty in the team’s No.15 Holden for the annual endurance races at Bathurst and Phillip Island.

Collins, a professional stunt driver, has long been rumoured to be the Stig, with English newspaper The Telegraph claiming he had mistakenly outed himself in January.

The show fiercely guards the identity of the Stig and it’s believed Collins could be sacked if he did admit he was the popular character.

The first Stig, stunt driver Perry McCarthy, lost the job after outing himself in his book Flat Out, Flat Broke, published in 2002.

Regardless of his secret identity, Collins will definitely be behind the wheel at this year’s Bathurst 1000 and Phillip Island 500 events.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to race in V8 Supercars with Jack Daniel’s Racing,” Collins said.

“Phillip Island and Bathurst are two circuits that every driver would love to get the chance to race on, especially Bathurst, which is such a famous race.

“I drove a Holden V8 Supercar earlier this year and these cars are sensational. They’re very demanding and the level of talent and professionalism in this category is very high.”

Collins, who worked as stunt driver on the latest James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, comes to Australia with extensive racing experience.

Among the 34-year-old’s achievements are testing sessions with Formula One team Ascari and the American Red Bull NASCAR team.

Todd Kelly, who will partner brother Rick in the team’s other car, said he was delighted to have such an experienced crew in their second vehicle.

“Endurance races like Phillip Island and Bathurst require a combination of pace and consistency, especially when it comes to 161 laps at Mount Panorama,” Kelly said.

“Ben has achieved a lot in endurance style racing and he will be a real asset to our team as we tackle our first endurance events.
“It’s fitting that he’s paired with Nathan because the two of them are both noted endurance specialists.

“It’s great to have two guys with such pedigree in our No.15 Jack Daniel’s Commodore.” The Kelly brothers finished second at both Bathurst and Phillip Island the last time they teamed up in 2006 and two-time Bathurst winner Rick Kelly said the pair are confident of a good result.

“The endurance races have been a major focus for our team and Todd and I can’t wait to team up again,” he said. “When we ran together in 2006 we finished second at both enduros, so we’ve definitely got some unfinished business this year.”

This year’s endurance races begin with the Phillip Island 500 from September 11-13 before the Bathurst 1000 is held from October 8-11.
